Hello,

Had a bearing type noise on the Zafira during a journey, just drew up outside of house and lost power steering. Checked oil next day and looked a bit grey and had small metal filings in mesh of reservoir. Suspect pump u/s. Looks like a pig of a job, has anyone got a clue of the easiest way of replacing apart from put it in the dealers.
Thanks in advance
Just edited after a search of previous posts and found 1 with altenator problem causing this fault. What is best way to test altenator, I have a digital test meter in the box but hate working on cars.

When you have the engine running check the voltage across the main battery terminals - if it is around 14v then the alternator is OK. More likely mechanical though if you are seeing metal filings in the oil.
