I've seen this vintage rim lock for sale, but I'm wondering which side would be fitted to the door and which side would be visible?

Therefore I'll know which side the lock moves out to (left or right).

Thanks!

the side with the visible screw-heads (upper pic) faces the door, and the side with rivet-heads (lower pic) faces into the room.

It's somewhat unusual to see a brass(?) escutcheon on the side facing the door.

that, and the thickness of the steel case, suggests a premium lock. Is there a maker's name on the bolt?

odd

Not Josiah Parkes?

Parkes was established mid 19thC in Union Street, and later adopted the Union trademark, I think early 20th Century.

I'm haven't seen the lock myself, just those two pics, the seller only gives the name Union. If I find anything else I'll post back here.
