Bath/shower wall mixer taps offset joints.

I need to adjust one of the offset joints - old taps 160mm.; new 150mm. - but it is sealed with now hard brown sealant.

What is this material? Is this possible to loosen with heat or anything else?

Thanks for any help.

It'll be plumbers mait/thread sealant putty/hawk white that's gone hard over time.

Unless they used resin sealant but unlikely, if they did then the joint would need to be replaced

It should go with a bit of effort but you may need to support whatever joint is in the wall, only issue is that it may then leak and it'll need re-made and re-sealed. They're terrible those s/z connectors. Ideally they'd get replaced but only if the centre of the couplers are bang on 150mm.
