we have the weirdest thing happening. if our W/Machine is on and we wash our hands under the kitchen tap it feels like we are washing them in shards of glass but not when the machine is off. Can anyone explain this phenomenon. the w/m and kitchen tap are supplied by the mains and the hot feed to the w/m comes from a hot water cylider.

any suggestions?javascript:emoticon('')

its imperative that you get the earthing of the socket that the wm is plugged into and the washing machine earthing itself checked, sound like the washing machine is not earthed and you are probably getting 80-90 volts somehow through the water pipes.

Do you use an extension lead for the power supply to the washing machine?
If so, take it out, it doesn't have an earth on it.
If not, unplug the appliances and don't use them until you get the electrics checked. As Gary says, you have no earth on the appliance.
This is a dangerous situation

Unplug your appliance before working on it.

Thanks for the info, will get a socket tester, funny you should say about the extension lead, our tumble dryer ( which invariably is running as well as the WM -we have two kids!) is run by an extension lead and may well be the root of the problem.

cheers (':)')
