I recently pulled our 8 year old washing machine out from it's hole in the wall to do a spot of spring cleaning. I decided to put some washing through a wash cycle but noticed the cold (blue) pipe felt warm whilst the hot (red) pipe wasn't.
It clearly appears as though the pipes have been fitted the incorrect way around but was unsure whether to swap them around or not.

Is it likely there could be damage caused by the hot water going into the cold connection on the back of the washing machine and vice versa?

The machine appears to be working fine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Connect them the correct way round. If your correct, the m/c is heating cold water for all washes, not a problem in itself as most machines only take in hot water for the very hot washes 60 degree plus, but, your rinsing everything with hot water.
1) Your wasting a lot of hot water.
2) Cold water is more effective for rinsing.
3) Your putting Hot water on all your clothes, so you may have washed some delicates at a low temp, then your rinsing them at a high temp, possibly ruining them or shortening their life span.
