In the context of smoke alarms, separate from what?

I like the idea of running smoke alarms from the lighting circuit (so it's obvious if the circuit has tripped), I will be using grade D (with battery backup) alarms; the regs say that they can be connected to "a separately electrically protected, regularly used local lighting circuit", but what does "separately electrically protected" mean in this context?

Can I simply power my smokes from a 6A RCBO lighting circuit? As I understand it, the answer is yes, but what do I know....?
