what drill is best?

Bosch are brilliant. The original and best SDS drills. DeWalt used to be good 15 years ago, but now they are rubbish.

its possible to get aftermarket cases that work just as well
Yes that is an option.

However people tend to buy a drill, get all excited and can't wait to use it, do a load of drilling then dump it in the van or garage. Any of my tools that did not come with a box are stored in a large carry box with a lid that protects the tools from dripping condensation (and knocks) whilst in the van.

Another downside is that if the carry box is too big or a bit unsuitable then the drill and all your sds bits end up rattling around in the box.

Buy a drill that comes with its own case.

Bosch make the best 2kg sds out there. The one with the combination chuck. Have one in the van.
Forget the number but its GBH something.

It sounds like you might have the same drill as me, the Bosch SDS GBH 2-26-DFR 800watt with swappable SDS/13mm chucks, 3.0J of impact force and 4000 impacts per min. Nothing stops it.

I think that they might of stopped making them now though. :(

It must be my best ever purchase. :D Not cheap but it does just about everything I could ever want, except for make the tea.
