So there is no difference in what they do? (i.e. allow you to stop the flow to chnage a tap etc..), they look the same but one costs more than the other.

The service valve i believe your talking of has a compression one end and Tap connector the other end.Saves having two fittings but costs way more than the two fittings combined.
