I have moved into a new apartment. It has Schuco windows. In each bedroom there is a big window that opens by rotating around a pivot (bottom of the window goes out, top comes in).
There is a mystery fitting in the frame:

The black plastic thing on the room side moves slightly and "unlocks" the thing on the rail inside the frame which then slides down:

I can slide it back and it clicks in again.
Also there is the little retractable wedge on the outside.
I can't for the life of me figure out what its for - is it for something that clicks on the window? Or a security thing to have it locked open a small amount?
EDIT:
I should add I can't see anything on the window at that position that could interact with it so I assume it must be for some external accessory fitting.
