I have got one the same as yours it dates from the 50s and you put a drill on it to power the saw.
guess it was an early circular saw.
i am 47 this year and i can remember it from when i was a young age so thats how i can sort of age it for you
i have a blue bxd somewhere
the idea is you use the drill some attachments with the chuck others without
theres was a circular attachment a sheet sander attachment a jigsaw attachment
i have in front off me now a 5" woden "quiksaw" in the origional box with what looks like all the rails and guids and blade gaurd in good condition after probably 50 years its a shame the paint is flaking big time as i am shure a museum somewhere could make use off it lol
