Think about an accident in the kitchen when the only light switched on is from the under cupboard lights. If something trips the sockets off then you are in sudden darkness. Not good if you have hot items in your hands.
If you run the lights from the lighting circuit and assuming the lighting is not on the same RCD as the kitchen socket then you will not lose lights if something like a spilt kettle takes out the power to sockets in the kitchen.
