Hi, I need to replace my oven and hob.

I have chosen a double oven (to be wired with 6mm cable).

If I go for an electric hob, the cooker installation instructions say I should take 2.5mm heat resistent cable from the same outlet as the 6mm cable so they can both by isolated by the same switch. The outlet would be very cramped and the the cable clamp and knock-out part of the outlet only suit a single cable. Is the instruction acceptable?

Alternatively, if I go for a gas hob, the one I've seen comes with a heat resistance cable complete with plug. Can I plug this into a socket that will sit behind the oven/under the worktop and therefore cannot be isolated from the kitchen.

Advise appreciated

Ha, maybe I should!
Incidentally, could the 2.5mm heat resistance cable that comes with the gas hob be connected straight to this? That would be 6mm in and 6mm and 2.5mm out. I do like the idea of a single isolating switch for both double oven and hob :)

I wouldn't like to wire a gas hob straight into a cooker circuit with no extra protection unless the manufacturer specifically said it's ok.

What i'd do is fit a single MK* socket for the gas hob where the current outlet plate is then continue in 6mm to a new outlet plate for the oven.

* MK spec the terminals on their sockets for 2x6mm, other brands may not.

Sorry don't quite follow your reply. Are you saying:
CU --> Ckr Outlet 1 (connect gas hob to this) --> Ckr Outlet 2 --> Double Oven. All in 6mm except Ckr Outlet 1 to hob in HR 2.5mm?

Alternatively could I do the following?:

Existing radial for kitched sockets --> switched FCU over worktop --> gas hob (all in 2.5mm) connecting from switched FCU to gas hob using HR 2.5mm. Or should I still have a Ckr outlet and connect the HR 2.5mm from this to gas hob?

What i'd do is fit a single MK* socket for the gas hob
