Hi all,

A couple of quick questions i'm looking for answers to, if possible.

Background - bought house 3/4 years ago, run of armoured cable along the side of the house, then underground to the garage.

Had to take this off as part of having an extension built, electrician unwired from consumer unit but we left all the garage side intact.

He told me when the extension was done to bury the cable and route it back to the Consumer Unit then when it was all finished, he'd come and wire it back in.

As i'm now in a position to wire it back in.

Question 1:

I don't want to bury the cable anymore, as it needs to go really deep and will be crossing gas, water and electric underground. Plus we're going to be having the drive resurfaced too and i'd already have to dig through a foot of concrete. Can I run it up the wall and along in conduit?

Question 2:

Wiring into the Consumer Unit should be straightforward enough, but these is an unusual brass looking fitting that was left on top of the consumer unit by the electrician and I recall this being used previously. Any idea what it is and how I use it? It's conical shaped with a couple of terminal screws. I can get pictures later tonight when i'm home if necessary.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Q1 - not sure, but I think you can run SWA clipped to the wall without conduit. Might need some extra protection if it's vulnerable to damage.

Q2 - it's a gland as you say, used to secure the cable and to provide electrical connectivity to the armour. I'd suggest leaving that for the electrician, just get the cable so that it can reach the consumer unit.
