I've added a plug to my lighting ring to power a Nest Cam. I know it's not advisable to do this, however it's a 12v 2a supply, so less than a halogen.
The electricians did this in our bedroom for our wardrobe lights (12v) and said it shouldn't really be done, but as long as it's only ever used for lighting, it'll be fine.

There appears to be 2 cables for the continuation of the lighting ring and a switch wire.

Rather than try and cram another wire for the plug in, I rewired it into a bigger junction - still 20a though.

Im just checking to ensure I've not missed anything that might cause a problem. I used a 1.5mm core cable for the plug

Perfectly fine. Some people don't like it. If I were you, I would write in sharpie something like 'fed from lighting circuit - for nest cam only' or similar on the socket.

If you have a labeller you can use that, but labels come off easier than sharpie.

Thanks, that's put my mind at rest! I've actually labelled up all the wires as I was doing it so I didn't get confused, and there's a label on the plug which says for Nest Cam or low voltage Xmas lights only :)

All good then, I would still like to see 'fed from lighting circuit on there'

Just makes things totally unambiguous
