My oil boiler has started locking up.
Boiler fires up and runs for perhaps a minute, then clicking noise and lockup.
Plenty of oil in the supply tank, checked spark OK.
Took oil supply pipe off where it enters the fan housing, plenty of oil came through, no bubbles.
Tried a new controller...no different.
Monitored voltage at the oil valve and it was steady at 240v until the clicking noise, it then went up to 890v...then after about 15 seconds, lockup.
Any ideas greatfully received.

whats the make and model of the boiler?

What burner do you have?

Wheres the 'clicking' noise coming from?

its a worster danesmoor 12.14 get some glasses.......

so it will prob be a b9 on it.

change the pump.

'spose you could change the pump, but checking the coil resistance would be cheap, and the photocell would be cheapish too.

890V indicates you have a peak reading meter, don't take much notice of the reading.

i was being cynical, oilman, but i would have checked blast tube for........
"signs" and if ok, discounted the pump.

agreed.photocell next on hit list for that fault.

Could even just clean the photocell window first!

mmmmmmmmm. too easy.

hopefully i would have noticed that

mind a sha££ed control box, will give the symptons also.....

Many thanks for the suggestions...
I metered the solenoid, was about 2.7K Ohms
Cleaned the photocell window. I'll get one to try tomorra..any suggestions for suppliers likley to have 1 in stock?
wilhelm...what should I look for in the blast tube as you suggested?

A quick look in the blast tube after lockout-signs of unburnt oil would point to a spark problem.

Sorted!
Twas the solenoid after all.
Or rather the cable to it, it was intermittently resistive.
