Zion and the Art of Armageddon

I've been reading that the population of the West Bank was
Tricky. Part of the agreement on the Oslo accord was 100,000 being able to return to the west bank. From where - pass. Really to get an idea of the population in that area there is a need to go further back. The reason for there being Palestine refugee camps in other countries. Some in Jordan are now also citizens of Jordon. Probably down to the fact Jordan ruled it. Gazans - well they were ruled by Egypt. They need the camps even in Jordan.

But sure there will have been population growth probably a bit baby boomy as unlike the UK with it's falling birth rate they don't live like we do eg couples needing to work. Aid also ensures a certain living standard. That includes disposable nappies and formulae. Both currently a problem in Gaza. What to do with aid when it also includes education? Leave them in the stone age? It seems literacy levels are higher in the strip than in the west bank. There are also universities - all it seems damaged or destroyed.

The White House says a US-made pier it says will boost aid to Gaza will become operational in "...two to three weeks before we can really see an operation,” White House national security spokesman John Kirby said on ABC News. “Nothing can replace the ground routes and the trucks that are getting in,” Kirby said.

Mahmoud Abbas has appealed to the US for American intervention to prevent an Israeli assault on Rafah and as far as i know, peace talks continue. Maybe they're edging closer to a deal? Netanyahu needs the win to have a shred of political credibility left to fend off Gantz and Hamas need the respite to recover their losses. Protests in support of Palestine around the world should warn Israel any kind of attack now would bring nothing but condemnation.

3,000 tonnes + in a ship has had problems getting to Gaza. Seems they wanted to break the embargo so the country it was registered with had the flag removed so it can't leave the port. ~200 trucks worth. If 15 and still lot if 20tonne per truck. 1/2 loads may still be what is allowed in.

The Arab group have held their own meeting on Gaza to get a consensus view. An interview of Blinken suggests no change backed up by translations of Qatar and and Saudi statements at the recent meeting. AlJ broadcast also the interview. The Arab view clear route to 2 states and I'd suspect of the correct type as they see it. Also ceasefire. There have been rumours about withdrawal back to 1967 boarders figuring as well.

Blinken talking about the 2 state end game and countries having to make hard decisions and he will continue working on this. He clearly wants all of the Arab states to fully accept Israel. He brings in Iran as well of course. I have wondered what the Arab response would be if there was a full scale attack on Iran. They are Arabs and have their religion and like all have human rights issues. The Shah of Iran made a poor job of running his country. Seems he fancied being a super power.

Binken is also dismayed that the HAMAS actual attack has fallen into the background. The US do see it as justifying it all. Then come public opinion. Getting worse in the US now with feeling it could even interfere in votes for Biden, ;) Trump pass but guess it will sound simple,

Some details of the Israeli offer to HAMAS appear to have been mentioned. Hostage and prisoner exchange with fewer numbers of hostages mentioned but no numbers of either given. Then a ceasefire followed by a period of "calm".

The west view??? Blinken??? sees this as an extremely generous offer. Commentators - what the hell does a period of calm mean?

HAMAS to look at the deal tomorrow. Cairo. Bit confused, thought they were looking at something today but this sort of thing does change at times.

Earlier Blinken was saying he could give no details about talks.

Lord Cameron of Chippy Bre*itannia says Hamas would be mad not to accept the latest proposal for a 40 day ceasefire and the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for 33 hostages. Hard to say how mad they are but it's probably the best deal available.

Would the end of hostilities suit Netanyahu though?

After days of conjecture in Israeli media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said late on Sunday that it has issued warnings to senior political and military officials that they could soon face arrest warrants. Israeli officials have referred in recent days to an ICC probe launched three years ago into possible war crimes committed by Israel and Palestinian fighters going back to the 2014 Israel-Hamas war. The investigation is also charged with looking at Israel’s construction of settlements in occupied territory such as the West Bank.

[Although] Israel is not a member of the court and does not recognise its jurisdiction, but the Palestinian territory was admitted with the status of a member state in 2015. In October, ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan said the court had jurisdiction over any potential war crimes committed by Hamas fighters in Israel and by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.

In addition...

US says Israeli army units violated human rights

"All the incidents involved took place outside of Gaza before the current war"

No doubt the apologists of Israel will come up with the usual dismissive excuses!

It seems to relate to the shooting of one person by a member of a particular brigade that the US has have complained about before. In that case the brigade was moved to the Golan Heights. The brigade are all volunteer ultra's.

The US and the ICJ when it made noises about some of their military actions. Afghanistan related - I think.
14 Dec 2020 — On September 2, 2020, the United States government imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda,

The use of US weapons and war crimes This is checked some how or the other and can't be supplied if the rules are broken. An AlJ interview of 2 people.

A lady. They have looked for instances of war crimes and found a number and then documented 16 thoroughly. Not totally sure where this info has gone or how the data was gathered.

A gent. Involved in the checks. He's resigned and it seems some others have done as well. What he essentially said was that they generate their report but Israel is different. Blinken has to sign it off. He's saying that Israel is the only country where this applies. He also made an odd comment. The ICJ can issue warrants. He didn't fancy say visiting Italy on holiday and getting arrested. I guess he means that this could happen if a person visited some countries.

Well it's a report ?????????????? The Blinken factor fits in with Israel can do no harm - eg security council motions.

A further phased ceasefire was one of the terms I read.
More info now but BBC pointed out we only know about leaks. It is a period of calm after a 40day ceasefire. The period of calm is intended to get past HAMAS's permanent ceasefire requirement. Some hostage returns but no numbers. Also it appears that Palastinians can return to the north, Currently both water and aid problems up there. Also hospital problems but one small one does appear to be working in the extreme north as one load of supplies appears to have got to it. Partial load. The next one was shot at. Some video was shown of a load going through the N Gate. Still closed and Israel it seems wants to move it.

All OK? Well Benjamin this morning announces he will be going into Rafar what ever happens. Beeb interview a retired IDF female general who says they must go into Rafar and the ceasefire etc may delay this. When the "problem" with that was mentioned she fell back to the hostages and not trusting HAMAS etc A "nice" solution not possible.

HAMAS. They offered a gradual hostage return for extending ceasefire periods leading to a permanent one long ago. While the wording may be different the current offer isn't much different to the previous Isreali ones.

You have stated but missed the point - hostages. Hamas declared war on Israel and are now sexually abusing and raping the hostages they took. No sorry Gaza's took them and sold to Hamas.

Pundits now reckon Benjamin's statement embarrasses Blinken / US. It might in terms of making it clear what the latest offering actually means but the US has pretty clear views on what is permissible in respect to Rafar and taken all together they don't rule out an attack.
