Zion and the Art of Armageddon

At a summit on March 22, the leaders of Ireland and Spain were also joined by their counterparts from Slovenia and Malta in committing to the recognition of a Palestinian state, [and] Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez met Ireland’s newly appointed leader Simon Harris in Dublin on Friday. Both Spain and Ireland have in recent weeks confirmed that they will recognise a Palestinian state.

Sanchez plans to also meet with the prime ministers of Norway, Ireland, Portugal, Slovenia and Belgium, government spokeswoman Pilar Alegria told reporters. “We want to stop the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and help kickstart a political peace process leading to the realisation of the two-state solution as early as possible,” Alegria said.

Currently, only eight of the 27 EU members recognise Palestine as a state: Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Sweden and Cyprus. However, the EU as a body does not recognise Palestine as a state — despite multiple diplomatic efforts over the years from within the bloc to do so. Some of the EU’s most powerful and influential nations, including Germany and France, hold the position that Palestinian statehood should only be recognised as part of a two-state solution with Israel.

In all, 139 out of 193 United Nations member states recognise Palestine as a state.

It'll be interesting to see if Sanchez can drum up support to lobby within the EU to recognise Palestinian statehood and make serious proposals for a two-state solution after the IDF have done their dirty work.

America wouldn’t be too upset if Israel bombed the f**k out of Iran and just happened to destroy their nuclear weapon development sites.
Agree with that.
Any conflict with Iran would take world attention off Gaza.
I doubt its a coincidence that Israel bombed the Iranian consulate when they did.

The United Nations human rights office has called on Israel to halt its support of attacks by settlers in the occupied West Bank. The call on Tuesday came a day after Israeli settlers shot dead two Palestinians in the West Bank following the killing of a Palestinian teenager during a military raid.

Separately on Saturday, dozens of settlers stormed the village of al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah, killing one Palestinian and wounding at least 25 others after a 14-year-old Israeli settler went missing. Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said, “Israel, as the occupying power, must take all measures in its power to restore, and ensure, as far as possible, public order and safety in the occupied West Bank. This obligation includes protecting Palestinians from settler attacks, and ending unlawful use of force against Palestinians by the Israeli Security Forces,” she said.

The Palestinian Health Ministry has said at least 466 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the West Bank since October 7, when Israel launched a war on Gaza following an attack on southern Israel led by the Palestinian group Hamas, which governs Gaza. Settler attacks have more than doubled from an average of three to eight incidents a day, Al-Haq found. The rate of Palestinians displaced more than doubled, with 280 Palestinians displaced on average every month due to settlement expansion, which is at its highest level since UN monitoring began in 2017.

Speaking to reporters in Israel, the UK’s foreign secretary David Cameron has said “It’s clear the Israelis are making a decision to act,” and that “We hope they do so in a way that does as little to escalate this as possible.” Reuters reports he also said that the UK wanted to see new sanctions Iran, saying “They need to be given a clear unequivocal message by the G7.”

Speaking to Hebrew media outlet Ynet, one of the fathers of those being held by Hamas in Gaza, Eli Shatvi, has urged Israel to extend its ground offensive to Rafah as the only means of getting his son back. He said “We need to enter Rafah as soon as possible. Don’t wait and say ‘we have a date’ – enter and defeat Hamas. Nothing else will help.”

Referring to the fact that Israel believes many of those held in Gaza are no longer alive, and that Hamas itself appears to have said it does not have enough living hostages who met the criteria for an exchange, Shatvi said “We talked about 40 abductees, and they are down to 20, and even less than that. We need to go into Rafah and look for every piece of information, otherwise we will not achieve anything. It is simply impossible to reach an agreement with Hamas.”

If Israel raises the stakes with a direct attack on Iran then what hope is there for any remaining hostages to return home? This was the reason for the Gaza invasion in the first place and in a devestated town with famine rife among the people how much food is likely to be given to them?

The West Bank is hotting up and not just with settlers. Groups of younger Palestinians are getting active as well. Not enough details to tell what this means in practice.

Israel appears to be speeding up certain types of actions in various parts of the strip. Also crowds of Palestinians trying to return to the north but being stopped.

There is a report that 40% of aid has been refused entry. Parliament also mentions part loaded trucks.

Our own media currently appears to be trying to prevent Iran aspects from detracting from Gaza issues.

His actual interview shown on the BBC doesn't indicate all of that. Only the last part without knowing if they will or wont.

Meanwhile yet another war cabinet meeting. Also another G7 meeting announced.

Qatar has been working for months as mediator in negotiations aimed bringing about a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli captives; but prime minister Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani has said Doha is re-evaluating that role, saying that some parties have used the mediation for “narrow political interest”. He added that while Qatar remains committed on mediation “humanitarian basis”, there has been “abuse and harm” done related to Qatar’s role.

'Some parties' is probably a veiled reference to Netanyahu using the negotiations as a cover for regrouping IDF troops in Gaza and launching an attack on the Iranian Consulate.

Reuters news agency has reported that a draft resolution put forward by Algeria on full Palestinian membership will go to a vote on Friday. Palestinian officials have said full UN membership is needed to assure Palestinians are treated as “equals to other nations and states”.

The only thing Qatar remains committed to is providing a safe haven and financial backing for Hamas, Isis, Muslim Brotherhood and any other wretched bunch of terrorists intent on the destruction of Israel and the West.
They are slowly being rumbled.

The US have already said they will veto it.

The west attitude is a little different as far as politicians of these groups are concerned. It allows them to communicate with them. Currently there are attempts to hold talks with the Taliban in a similar way. Communicating with Iran has similar problems and those have happened.

full Palestinian membership
Thursday for the hearing was mention today. Sounds like it will be today.

Currently the council is holding an open meeting on the Palestine question, lack of aid flow and similar. Israel mostly lambasted the UN in it's entirety and also thinks it will not exist for much longer. It seems the state recognition will get sufficient votes to pass so the US will have to use it's veto.

The form of the state is being mentioned. Ones I have heard involve the boarders as of 1967. UK, settlements are illegal but no mention of boarders. Also stop forming them now. A new one is a land grab for an industrial complex. Aid problems mentioned

USA as expected lambasted Iran. No mention of the embassy attack and they used the veto when that was voted on - more encouragement for Iran to attack. He was very critical on Israel not opening the other aid corridors. Wants them open and flowing now. No comment about Israel still restricting aid. Peace deal comments - strange, he mentioned a permanent cease fire which Israel keeps rejecting. It's probably still a pause leading to one - if possible.

Bit more on Lebanon one not mentioned in the news. 2 strikes with large drones, separate places. The other seems to have been at an iron dome. Showing they can hit further into Israel if they want.

Turns out it's not a good idea for 6 kids to play around a football machine in open air in Gaza if a drone appears.

Reports on the news yesterday of Israeli woman hostage (s) being sexually assaulted by Hamas (?) terrorist / gunmen

No surprise

Tis what they do ;)

we don't often hear of the murders of Palestinian women and children by Israelis.

It happens too often to be news.

It's what they do.
