Hello all,

I wondered if someone can give me a bit of a pointer with regards to the building regs for hole in the wall fires.

In the instructions for most of the models we've looked at the manufacturer state the hole must be a minimum of 300mm above the floor...so I assume that must be the regulation.

That seems pretty straight forward to me, but the fire we've decided upon doesn't have that sitipulation (although the info available is limited).

My question is, is the height measured from the floor to the bottom of the visible opening of the fire, or from the floor to the base of fire's surround / casing?

The fire in the link has a much smaller opening than surrounding casing so I would like to know the correct point of reference. (I'm hoping its the opening height as that means it'll fit in our existing hole). Certainly from looking at the picture on the manufactures website the fire only looks about a foot up from the floor.

Thanks in advance for your help

You follow the MI and these instruction should have come with the fire, you need to have a word with the suppliers, as I understand it, it is against the law to sell these type of goods with out installation and user manuals.

Anyway it's 300mm for this fire.

A gift from me

page 9 covers the distance required.

Thanks Prentice,

We haven't bought the fire yet and were having difficulty finding the full installation manual.

From reading this its clarified that it's 300mm from the bottom of the unit. Thanks

It would seem to me that the picture the company has on its broucher is a non compliant install, as given that the fire is 400mm wide, there's no way the gap to the floor is 300 mm.

If we are talking about the leaflet linked to by you, I doubt very much that the pictured fire is actually the Royal 400 Scenic, as the dimension table doesn't tally up.
As it would suggest the overall height is greater than the width, which is evidently not true according to the photo.
