Hi,

Wondering if someone can provide or direct me to some information I require.

I had a heating engineer/plumber friend pop around today to fix a small leak to a valve - while he was hear he looked at the cylinder. He noticed that the thermostat was just sat on top of the insulation foam rather than cut in so its touching the cylinder.

I am surprised I hadn't noticed before, but its a rented house and landlord has regular gas safety inspections. Is this not something that british gas should pick up?

What were the possible consequences for it being like this? Any other comments etc.

I would like to approach my landlord about this.

A gas check won't pick up on this.
It's isn't anything to do with the gas safety of the house.
It means the boiler won't know when the cylinder gets to temperature
and therefore won't shutoff wasting gas keeping the pipes warm.

Cut the thermostat into the insulation and ensure it is strapped tightly to
the cylinder with a curtain wire.

The thermostat should be attached directly onto the cylinder through a cutout on the foam. I'm surprised you hadn't noticed the water temperature being to hot.

Thank you for the replies, my friend had cut it in and secured it.

Water was pretty hot but didn't really think!

you will save a little money too

it does not give confidence in the competence of the installer.
