New boiler installed on an old system. Bodged job?** PICS **

Well I went back and looked for the spec you said you'd posted and couldn't see it.

Look, you're WF client. The installers are WF representitives or agents. They quoted a price to bring the job to the WF spec. I shredded mine when I finished but a powerflush was on it. Even if it wasn't the boilers had to be installed in accordance with manufacturers instructions.

If the installers didn't do it then they did not do the work they'd contracted and priced for.

Carillion want you to go away. Don't bug us bug Carillion. If you get no response go higher or to an MP.

Ask for a copy of the Spec for gas installations (I can't remember the title) if they fob you off FOIA will get it for you there's nothing commercially sensitive about it.

Pay a local engineer with a test kit to take a sample or do it yourself and use a TDS meter it or send it to Fernox they'll test it for you and also tell you whether one of their cleansers and inhibitors were used.

Personally I'd do that after asking for written assurance from the contractor that this had been done and without telling them of your intentions 'cos you have them by the nuts if they say yes and it's no. Fernox charge less than a £100 and you say you don't care about the money.

What have Remeha got to do with anything? Did I miss something? or Vaillant? Ideal is the boiler manufacturer.

Your problem is the scheme is ending and that's that. On the plus side there'll be something to replace it and Carillion will be looking to get a slice and unfinished business doesn't look good.

Stop writing here and get at the people who you need to but post back with results otherwise you're just an all talk Moaning Minnie (with a masters in chemistry).

This is the job sheet:

Replace existing boiler with new Ideal Logic 30he condensing combination boiler with a standard flue configuration
Change the trv on the hallway radiator for an LSV
Install new programmable room thermomstat into the hallway
Powerflush the heating system and treat with chemicals to prevent corrosion
Install a spirovent (dirt collector) to the central heating system
Install a scale reducer to prevent lime scale build up

After reading many boiler manuals and searching the forums, I think I have figured out what should have happened.

Please tell me if this is the correct procedure (original boiler not working):-

1) Rapidly drain the system - opening all TRV's and air vents.
2) Remove the old boiler.
3) Fit *connectors* for new boiler (but not boiler)
4) Powerflush the system throughly for a approx 4 hours or more.
5) Cold flush system to remove any powerflush cleanser/Fernox F3 residue until TDS <10% compared to tap water.
6) Fit the new boiler
7) Fill system and do a cold flush
8 ) Fill system again and add more Fernox F3, then run the new boiler to heat water for 1 hour. Drain the system whilst water is still hot.
9) Flush system until water is clear.
10) Refill system and add inhibitor.

Have I got that right or not?

I used to do jobs like what you have had done, the installer gets 1 day to do everything and thats it, to power flush for 4 hours is impossible. Warmfront will not have had any intention of doing this. If you want quality YOU PAY FOR IT!!!

for example

NHS glasses compared to Designer glasses

Warmfront £450 compared to Quality installer £2000+

Pay your money take your choice

Love how the op's £400 odd pounds has miraculously turned into £2100.

My ol' man is 67 this year and still working shall I get him -

A) a new boiler?
B) a blue peter badge?

It's what people do ffs.

Get your dad a new boiler Dan! And a Blue Peter badge to fix on it as well.

But if he is still working then he can probably afford a new boiler himself.

Yes, I've writtena letter so lets see what they come back with. I'm going to stop posting unless I get really stuck. Thanks for very useful advice.

It was a 2 man team, they came at 8 and left at 1.30pm, had plenty of time to do it properly if they had wanted to. If they didn't and had told me that it was due to lack of time, I would have been happy to give their manager a call. I got the feeling it was a case of 'who knows we haven't done the work properly' as most of the installs are in elderly peoples homes who just let them get one with it. It is appauling that this is the way people of this age are treated. Work should be of the highest standard especially in elderly house so that they don't have to have the hassle of getting repairs done and exposed to more cowboys that like to charge £1000 a day. We find it horrifying when there are programmes on TV of elderly people being neglected in care homes, etc, this is just as disgusting.

Agile, Dan Robinson : I get the impression you are just disgruntled as you don't have a chance to milk the WF gravy train. It's a bit pathetic

What really gets up my wick, you have a good job with a decent wage, why didn;t you get your installer to install and you and your siblings pay. Instead you have the same attitude as the majority we're entitled to it so we're going to have it. Thats what ****ed this country up.

My mums 73, came over in 1956 worked all her life, paid her taxes. She was entitled to a w/f installation, but the family got a reputable installer in full stop.

You knew what you were getting yourself into, and now you have added to the many w/f install posts.

Some people are only happy when they moan.

Goodnight I'm off to bed.

He has a 6 year old Danesmoor courtesy of heavily subsided labour (me). But I dare say he can afford an upgrade if only the silly s0d wasn't able to fix everything. That boiler will outlive both of us

By my sums though he and my step mum have worked for longer and all they get is a fricking bus pass.

ha ha ha ha ha , best thread ive read for ages.
keep up the moanin and complaints , its the only thing our countries good at. you'll be ringin the papers next tryin to get the installer flogged at dawn.
if the boiler only lasts 5 year you've basically rented it for £2 quid a week, then youll Know ideals are crap and not to use bad installers. After that u can find youself a decent installer and boiler.

Sarah, I never agreed with the principal of WF, and to prove my point I did a job for an old couple through the £300 grant scheme. Utter farce of a system

Disgruntlement only comes into effect when state scrouging lefties carp on about how they didn't get wat they are entitled to. I get naff all from her majesty's government, what I do get goes straight into my little one's trust fund.

Future planning my dear.

If we weren't paying for stuff like this there would be more money to help those in care homes.

That's what urks me, not the fact that I needed to scrape the barrel and prostitute my skills to some socialist idealogy/quango.

Christ I sound like Thatcher's love child :)

Wow. There are plenty of good engineers in your local area, But as usual, we all want something for nothing, so we pursue this first, ingoring all rational thought that tells us no to do it. If you are honest, you kind of knew this was going to happen, but you could just have easily parted with £2k and got a dodgy installer. Feel lucky that you got a dodgy installer and only got charged £400.

If quoted a powerflush then you should have had one. It is not a requirement, it is a basic flush that tends to fulfil the warranty, but if quoted and signed for then you do have a legal stance.

Yep earn a fortune then claim as much as poss, get a pretty much free install, then moan when not done to how they think it should.

Point is unless you test water and prove its bad shut up
They don't have to power flush any system under bs so shut up
Your obviously not thick and agreed to having an ideal fitted, if you'd of read on the net re ideal you'd of stayed well clear so shut up

I went to diagnose a boiler fault for a landlord and plugged my phone charger in while I was there.

The female tennant objected because I was using "her" power!

Now a charge is 4 watts and will run for 250 hours for 13 p !!!

For the 30m min I was there the charge would have been £0.00052

The boiler needed a new gas valve and I had these in stock and could have fixed it the next day.

But as I needed to charge my phone at home the next day the boiler was not repaired until the following day.

Odd the the tenant did not work and lived on social security.

You old skinflint. Are you so green that you don't keep a few pennies in your pockets for just such eventualities, In social housing this comes up now and again so you just give them 1p for the electric you used. What are they going to do...complain. It certainly shuts them up.

I think most people on here are bang out of order. You do not try and take it out on the customer under any circumstances for using a scheme such as Warmfront. If you have dirty linen you want aired because you have a chip on your shoulder about the scheme then do it within the industry where it has some relevance. Its not as if the customer invented the scheme, so why all the bile and nastiness just because they were entitled. It puerile to say the very least and just plain pathetic at worst.

Somebody got paid quite nicely for this job. The customer contribution is utterly irrelevent to the issue raised by the customer. If the spec said 'powerflush' then thats what should have had done. The job should have been done to the spec sheet and there is prima facie evidence it might not have been. Thats a perfectly legitimate concern for any customer. The pay issue is between the installer and his employer and does not mean they should be obliged to put up with a rushed job. If the installer doesn't like the the pay he can get another job elsewhere.

The customer came on here asking for guidance, and instead got the kind or redneck response that does our industry no credit at all. All she wants is to ensure that the job was done properly and to ask the right questions of the people responsible, and to get any necessary rectification work done.

For what its worth if I were her I'd just write to the company expressing her concerns and ask for the inspector to contact her and carry out a quality control check..including the radiators that don't get hot, and a water sample being taken.

And as for using this thread to have a go at the Ideal Logic, I mean how pathetic and inappropriate is that, particularly as from all the evidence so far its doing OK for the most part.
