Removing chimney (entirely) quote

Had a quote from a builder to remove a chimney from top to bottom of a 2 story mid terrace. £1500 which includes patching roof and all floors but no plastering, skips included etc, all in.

The builder wouldn't even consider removing it from one storey only without a engineers report.

Seems like a good price?

Would be no harm to have an engineer look at it anyway as the chimney could be supporting/strenghtening a party wall.

Price seems fair, I'd want a structural report done anyway no matter how much he takes out. Also, get copies of his insurances.

ARE YOU ANY GOOD AT DIY?

We paid local roofers £350 to take off stack and tile over over and then did the rest of it ourselves. It was quite hard work but saved us a bit of money.
