I want to move an electic cooker double pole switch. The existing cable is not long enough to reach to the new position. The cable runner to the consumer unit is to very difficult to replace. Can I join the 6mm cable safely? If so what should I use to join it? The joint has to be hidden in the plasterwork.

This has been covered loads of times - do a search.

Bottom line - you should avoid joins as hard as you can, but if you really really can't, and you intend to bury the join you must use crimps, applied with a ratchet tool, not the useless ones sold for motorists.
