Hi There,

Happy New Year!

We've got an Ideal C24 Mini Combi boiler and the central heating works really well. The problem is with the hot water, or lack of it! Despite the hot water dial being turned up full, the hot water is not very hot. It says it's 60C on the thermostat, but there's no way it's that hot. It's just over body temperature.

Our flat is about 3 years old and this problem seems to be getting progressively worse (or it might just be because it's so cold a the moment!).

Can anyone shed some light on this, what it might be and how much it might be to fix it.

Thanks

Have you got really good water pressure and flow rate?

If so you may simply be running the hot taps too fast for a 24Kw combi.

Might also just need a service with gas and burner pressures checked and adjusted.

Thanks Dave.

The water pressure and flow is very good.

We'll give turning down the taps a go and see if that helps.

If not, then we'll have to get someone in to have a look at it.

We do live in a very hard water area, so something could be scaled up.

Thanks for the advice.

If PHEX was scaled you would expect poor flow, not poor heat - bypass pipe and PHEX on primary side could do with looking at and poss flushing through with cold water...

Too many professionals still say scaled up when they really mean the primary side of the plate is blocked.

Helen, the water in London is NOT too hard for any properly designed combi boiler. Its not really very hard at all compared with somewhere like Bracknell or Reading.

Yours is fine in London and as long as there is no fault it will NEVER get any problem from lime scale.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies.

We've tried just turning down the taps so they're not on full pressure and that seems to do the trick perfectly! A cheap and easy solution!

You live and learn eh?

Thanks for all the help and advice. Much appreciated.

Helen
