HI!

Just a quick question, Has anyone got advice about getting my water company to come out to repair the stop valve in the pavement supplying my property. I'm having some alterations done and need to turn off the at the pavement but the plumber/builder cant operate the valve.

I have contacted the water company and their response was they are not obliged to supply a stop valve and will need to pay nearly £400 to get it fixed.

Has anyone had similar??

Many thanks!!!

From what I know, if you havent' tampreed and broken/damaged the valve yourself, then it is their responibility to come out and fix it/change it!!

if you ever need to touch the street stopvalve and it is very stiff, etc then it's not worth forcing it, etc as if you break it, then you will be the one who is charged!!

You pay your water rates!

Then the stop cock on the pavement is down to the Local water supplier.

They are responsible for that valve to be working; if you had a leaky pipe in your property and you could not turn off the internal stop cock, then a plumber would use the one on the pavement.

Ive been out to a few homes where there is a serious leak in the property and had to ring the Water supplier in the middle of the night, to get an inspector out to deal with 'their stuck service valve'; they wont want a bill from you or your insurance company if you cant turn the water off.
