Our Worcester high flow has suddenly stopped working - no central heating, no hot water. The pilot\\\'s lit but when you demand hot water or heating it doesn\\\'t fire up. Any ideas?

You need to find out if you have power to the gas valve, have you a multimeter and are you competent to use it plus what model hiflow is it , the data plate on top of the boiler will tell you if its an RSF the plate ison the front, the age would help as well as it was updated a few times, the first four digets of the serial number will give the age such as 9606 (1996 june )

Two lights are on - the "standby" is orange, "demand" is green. The date is 09 1996. It also says 400 OF + BF. Can't tell if there's power to the gas valve. When the green "demand" light is on it seems to make a slightly different noise - as if it wants to fire up but can't. Any advice much appreciated.

The 400 has two overheat stats one linked into the pilot ,that must be ok as you say the pilot is on the other is a resetable stat under the controll panell. look under the panel and you should see it ,press the button and if it is tripped you will feel the resistance as you press it if has not tripped then you will feel the button loose,if it does re set then you will then have to find out why it tropped.

The switch is loose so I presume it hasn't tripped. Am going to get someone out today - do you think it could be the pump?

Ignore that last message! The left reset button is loose - the reset button on the right has disappeared, there's just a hole in the metal where it used to be.

DOes this boiler switch off if the water pressure's low??

I think so, yes. There's a pressure gauge which hasn't been looked at for a while - I think the pressure must've been right down.

Yes, topped it up as soon as it went off three days ago. Had someone out today who got it working briefly then it went off again - he said it "exploded" a couple of times - water and steam coming out - he's coming back Wednesday for another look. Thinks it might be a blockage of some sort? Reckons he can get it to come a bit then it goes off again. Do you think he knows what he's talking about??? BTW thanks for all the replies.

The hole on the right is for the overheat stat on the RSF model. You say you have a pilot lihgt still on so you cant have an overheating problem such as slow pump or lack of water as the interupter stat would have turned off the pilot, there is no low water pressure switch on the 400 and the left hand overheat stat under the controll box is sensing the overheat of the slave tank in case of sticking flow switch or faulty hot water stat. If you can hear a change in the diverter valve etc when you switch from ch to dhw then it seems your timer is ok but too loose ch and dhw with the pilot on is usually the limit stat that you say you pressed or a board fault, but its a fairly reliable board on the other hand the stat is more problamatic. ps the wireing diagram is on the inside of the front cover
