Bought a second-hand washing machine from some friends. 3 years old.
It worked fine at their place.
Plumbed it in, plugged it in etc. Pressed Start, and it went BANG. Seemed to be from behind the program selector.
Tripped everything, so it went back into the garage, until I take it apart. Any ideas what it could be or whether I can even fix it? Thanks.

What sometimes happens when an appliance is moved, any water remaining in the soap drawer drips onto the timer, causing a short circuit when the machine is turned on. If you are very lucky the fault goes away when the parts dry out but you may find there are burnt copper strips on any printed circuit boards. When I use my sack truck to shift machines around I always have the truck on the soap drawer side rather than the timer side.

Hi,
Sorry for the delayed response. I have had the machine appart. (The top off and peered in) When moved the machine didn't tip enough for water to go from the soap draw to the circuit board. Though the board could have had damp as the machine was stored for a month in the garage.

I can't see how to take the programmer and circuit board out though at the moment?

I changed the fuse in the plug, and turned the machine onto a spin to see what happened, the power light came on again, but that was it.

Dead???

You might be best to get someone in to look at it. Unless you have soldering equipment and the skill to use it you would be unable to repair the circuit board yourself (if that is the problem). At 3 years old it is worth having it checked before you give up on the machine.
