Our boiler is a Baxi Combi 80 Eco boiler and is due a service (don't think it's had one and it's 5 or 6 years old).

do we have to get a plumber who specialises in Baxi boilers to do the servicing or are boilers all pretty much the same to a plumber ?

Not really, some boilers do need specialists else the engineer wont know what typical things to be checking with problematic/sophisticated boilers but yours is a nice striaght foward easy service so just look for anyone reputable. The problem you have with your boiler though would need someone who knows the boilers well as intermitant faults can be very difficult to diagnose (maybe phone heat team themselves for the service/repair)

Most people tend to specialise in either installing or repairing.

Those who repair will normally have a general experience of common boilers. Sometimes they will have less exposure to certain makes, either because they dont encounter them often or sometimes they avoid them ( often because they know their knowledge is less ).

Your boiler is a common model which most repairers will be familiar with.

As you only want a service thats not very demanding and any engineer should be OK with them.

thanks for the replies.

What is involved in a service and, assuming only the serviceable items were replaced and no problems were found, what is a reasonable sort of ball park figure for a service..?

Could be £50, £100, ...
How's your hot water?
Do you lose pressure often ?
Those sort of questions might reveal something which needs attention.

Price difficult to say, depends on what type of service, FGA test only, remove fan and burners only, replace diverter diagphram as preventative maintenance, clean DHW and CH filters if they have one, check flow rate and temp rise, ect ect, a lot depends on what you call a service and how far you want him/her to go......

Tony etc your missing the point here, poster wants a service done as hes said on another post his boiler is overheating intermitantly else im pretty sure boiler wouldnt be getting a service
:p

The OP did not mention any other posts or aspects!

A service is just that, a routine service and assumes the boiler is apparently working correctly with no know issues. *********** We dont go for at least a week as its not urgent!

A REPAIR is when there is a known fault. In that case we go the same day when possible and charge more!

will save you having to quote prices every other post

Hello Kev, have they finally got sparky stuff in Tennessee. or are you back home. ;)
