Why is it that you can have two appliances from one switch only if they are less the 2m away?

coz the regs say so

also if the switch is within 2m it can be readily accessed for disconnection

you should be able to reach isolation switch and touch appliance at the same time. if there 5M away this cant be done

This sounds like the old reg of "arms reach" but now better defined

AFAIK if you only have one appliance it has to be within 2m.

The regs are for your safety, ignore them at your peril.
