Why is it that you can have two appliances from one switch only if they are less the 2m away?

you should be able to reach isolation switch and touch appliance at the same time. if there 5M away this cant be done

AFAIK if you only have one appliance it has to be within 2m.
 
So thier is no other reason other than because the regs say so?
 
What other reason do you need?
The regs are for your safety, ignore them at your peril.
 
I just wanted to understand why the reg is there?
