Okay, forgitve some noob questions!

I've bought one of these from Screwfix:
http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?cId=100595&ts=00484&id=91420

It looks really nice but the top pipe is a bit short as I have a free standing bath a couple of cm away from the wall. Is there any trick to move the shower head further into the bathroom?

Check this out:

edit: doesn't work, try this:

The rose unscrews but the pipe and first bend is fixed, although the fixing to the wall does unscrew. The wall is brick and the tiles marble.

Also, the hot and cold pipes run next to each other vertically along the bathroom floor, one on top of the other. They both have isolation valves so cutting through is no problem, though the bath is in the way. What sort of join should I be looking to make to direct the pipes up to the shower thermostat? The pipes are quite thick and grey and I'm thinking chrome to match the rest of the bathroom.

Any comments much appreciated!

Cheers.

How is the horizontal pipe fitted into the elbow that attaches to the wall? If you can unmake this joint you could make a longer arm out of 15mm chrome plated pipe bent with a pipe bender and with end prepared to take rose and connect to wall attachment.

Alternative is to introduce a crank into the vertical pipe near the top and make up a bracket to hold wall attachment a suitable distance out. You might be able to pick up a piece of chrome plated light steel flat bar that could be bent to suit.

one prob. Jo..........you can`t bend chromed bar .it flakes off  bend and then chrome it ,yes. might get away with pipe.or stainless.

Crank - sort of what I was thinking but since the up-pipe is chromed as well I guess that's a non-starter or else it will chip as you say...

Hi chaps

After a bit of research I realise the earth question is to do with bonding as described here:

http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/bondingbathroom.htm

The only electrical points in the bathroom are the light swith pull cord that also operates the extractor fan, with no timer, and the light itself in the middle of ceiling.

As far as I'm aware none of the metalwork is bonded - is this a problem? Should it be my next project?

After a prolonged wander around B&Q plumbing section and consulting the RD DIY guide I've gone for ring solder Tees (22-15) cut into the feed pipes along the floor, which are actually copper painted silver, going to a short length of copper to a compression chrome shut-off valve then chrome pipe to the thermostat.

The lower pipe can get round I realised by tilting the Tee slightly and using either a bend in the first copper pipe or an obtuse elbow.

Cutting the pipes will be a complete b#####d but heh ho!

I'm going to leave the shower head where it is for now.

One question remains: the only seal for the horizontal pipe to the rose seems to be a rubber o ring in the female joint that the chrome up-pipe fits into. I can't see any additional stuff to fix it. I can't believe this will not leak. Is there a part missing - They surely don't want me to solder it?

Cheers fellas.

(Dear Mods, edited thread as contains 4 issues really: earth bonding / how to cut a tee into a confined space / extending out a pre-soldered rose / and identifying a particular type of joint that might be a speedfit... Don't think I'll get any answers so will break the questions up and try again..)
