Do expansion pipes from the top of the cylinder have to loop up over the water storage tank and come down from above? or can they be fitted to the side of the tank above the water line?

I have new sealed tank to install and it would be easier to put it in the side a little higher than the ballcock.

Cheers

You can if you are planning a water feature in your loft.

It will pump over when your heating is on due to expansion. :D

Its the tanks from screw fix that have the small lids on top.

The tank it also very close to the roof so makes getting the pipe in the top difficult.

How high does it have to loop up the top?

Thanks

If you have one of these:

...then you should find that the 'byelaw' kit includes a grommet to go around the vent pipe as it enters the TOP of the cistern (aka tank).

If the cistern top is too close to the roof, then I recommend that you get a shallower cistern, not compromise on the installation.
