Old toilet cistern

I have a very old , but close coupled toilet, which is constantly leaking, and having no external overflow is always running into the bowl. a local plumber looked and said it needed a certain type of valve, which is no longer available.
Can anyone help, the constant running water and the noise is very annoying.
the make is Shanks and i am sure the plumber mentiones a "beta" washer

Sound like a syphonic loo. The parts are rare, but I know Grahams do them ( well the Portsmouth branch does anyway ).

Well it took a few weeks but I have received and fitted a Beta Drop Valve washer to my cistern- and sorted. thanks
