before u say anything lads i know they are ****e ..

i have gone to a repair today the 2 amp fuse is tripping in the pcb have checked everything and all seems ok replace the fuse and it pops striaght away ....
as per usuall sticking switches on the board .. !

replaced the board and it runs for 10/20- min then pops the fuse again .. some times the fuse spur goes ..

runs fine on hot water only .... as far as i can tell.. ran it for ages ..

i have swopped the pump head in case there was a short there .. the rest of the appliance are mainly NCT so wont trip a fuse ..

wot am i missing ??? cheers lads ..

As long as there is no water leaked then there are only three mains operated parts, pump, fan and gas valve.

The traditional way to identify which is to externally power each one with a 2A fuse and see which item blows its supply fuse.

PS they are quite good boilers apart from the sensors failing so often and the brittle venturi connectors breaking.

thx agile... any thoughts on which it could most likey be ? fan or gas valve .. :)
als i thoguht 1 of the sensors was 240 .. too

So it's on CH only - is there a room stat? If so disconnect it, link it out in the boiler and run on the boiler stat for a while.

Check for reverse polarity while you're there - never a waste of a moment!!

Anybody opening a boiler to expose electrical parts should check for both polarity AND that the live is correctly isolated when the switch is operated for their own safety first and the householders second.

Does the fan get noisier as it runs for a while? Wondering if bearings are going and motor is trying to draw too much current to keep it spinning :?:

update as of today ...
hot water only.... the boiler runs sweet as a nut ..... 2 days now no problem ... turn the heating on and fuse trips again ..

any more thought s lads...

i suspect a dodgy new board .. (its making me look silly now )

Is there time before fuse blows to see any sparking/arcing or hear it?

Golden rule, never assume a new part is working correctly because it is new ;)

I think this is a bithermic heat exchanger.

If its blowing a fuse but only on the CH mode then does it still do it with the external room stat disconnected at the boiler?

It does sound a rather odd fault but the solution is bound to be simple and probably something you have overlooked.

Not had much to do with ferrolli`s but the pump on falcon 1 only works on heating demand and when in hot water it works like a water heater. So double check pump / roomstat and any stats that only sense the heating

cheers ladds for the fast replies..

i have swopped the pump head already....
no external stat...... boiler stat only ..

and the heating runs for maybe 3 to 10 min .(varies)... also the boiler is plugged in and the fuse in the plug has popped to .. once..

3amp in the plug head.

fixed it .. short in the pump harness .. didn`t show on test ... replaced and all ok now .. thx for the above .. john

Thats why tests on mains wiring harnesses should be done with a 500v insulation tester ( with no PCBs in sight ! ).

I have encountered the odd one on new boilers.
