Decide on the furniture i.e. locks, keyhole, letterbox, door knocker, door bell, door chain, spy hole, bolts and striking plate/weatherboard and fit accordingly the most suitable for your door. It is worth remembering that a rim lock is not as secure as a mortise lock, because it is screwed to the inside of the door and could be forced off. The mortise lock is fitted in the door itself on the edge. To force this lock open, the door would have to be smashed. However, for extra security a rim lock or cylinder nightlatch can be used alongside a mortise lock.
