Hi,
I have a Potterton Boiler and Potterton ep2001 timer. For some reason the boiler is no longer coming on when either the timer should be starting it or when I put it on to cont. It was coming on and turning off intermitently during its programme previous to it not working at all. Also there was a loud ticking noise coming from the thermostat in the airing cupboard. Could this have anything to do with it?
Any help would be really appreciated, my Mrs is on my back to get this fixxed and if I can avoid calling out a pluber obviously I will!
Thx

Oh, and I forgot to mention, that the loud ticking noise would stop when I turned the tempreature down on the thermostat

EP timers are dreadful, first suspect.
What boiler do you have?
Does it fail on ch AND dhw?
Do you still have hot water?
Ticking noise from the thermostat is highly unlikely.

fails on hot water and central heating, nothing is coming on. If it is the timer, are they easy to replace? How can I check whether it is definitely the timer?

It's a potterton boiler for definite, any idea how I can identify the model? The outer casing just says potterton

I've had a good delve through images on the internet and although it doesnt say on the boiler itself, it looks exactly like a Potterton Profile

In fact, Its definately a Profile 40e, just found a sticker with it on inside a little hatch on the bottom.

i have done that and if it is some sort of trip switch then the boiler hasnt tripped as the button has not popped out

The first step actually should have been checking whether you have gas by turning cooker or fire on, but I suppose you have done that.

Next step is to check if pump and valves work, do you have one or two motorised valves?

Turn ch only on, and check the little pin on the valve, it should feel really loose.
Feel the plastic part of the pump for sight vibration, and turn to max whilst you are there.

Really sorry but what do these motorized valves look like? Dont have a gas cooker or fire.
