The article you linked implied EU prevented renationalisation.
It does not.
The UK already has track and operator as separate companies -so not complicated, simply the status quo.

It may not, but it is reasonable to say the EU aren't keen on nationalised railways that effectively aren't open to competition.
No national railway makes a profit, so how else can it be done?
Being 'not keen' and 'preventing' are totally different things...
This reality of choice of course tends to get mixed up by those with an ideological blockage to understanding the facts

I am aware of this.
luckily, nations that are members of the EU have votes in the European Parliament, seats on the Council, and membership of the Committees. So are able to press for changes if they wish.
Obviously this does not apply to the UK, since we have decided to throw our voice and our votes away.

so, why didn't Tony and Gordon re-nationalise the railways back in the days when we were all singing 'things can only get better', I'm sure it was part of their manifesto, I'm also sure D-Ream didn't do a song called 'things can only get better, apart from the railways'.
Maybe they, or the boss Blair, weren't socialist enough. Just a thought.

I've never been a big supporter of privatisation if I'm honest, so I'll say no.
