Kehinde Andrews, on Trevor Philips
Why does the identity-politics set hate Trevor Phillips so much? Their loathing is palpable. They’ve hounded him out of the Labour Party, from which he was recently suspended on trumped-up charges of ‘Islamophobia’. They’re currently trying to get him thrown off the inquiry into why coronavirus has had a disproportionate impact on black and ethnic-minority communities. And they speak about him in the most demeaning and racialised terms. Kehinde Andrews, a Guardian contributor and academic, calls him a ‘modern-day Uncle Tom’ and accuses him of ‘coonery’. ‘Coon’, of course, is a vile racist word to describe a black person who exists merely to entertain white folks.

As you may have noticed Ive go t more than just an interest in Racism.. Have a little read of what Kehinde Andrews thinks about another black man Trevor Philips.
Are there any words used there that surprise you..

When I worked in Cape Town in the early eighties, they used to advertise the 'Coon carnival'. It’s changed it’s name nowdays of course.

Im getting ever so confused who's supposed to be the racist and who are the good guys.

Does that mean we are no longer allowed to use the words 'uncle' or 'tom'.

Words cannot be racist. People who use them might be.

Obviously some white people might now simply use the word in a derogatory way to any black person but it seems the origin was a term used within the black community for someone who they think is a traitor to their colour so, strictly speaking, not really a racist term.

Its a term used to describe black person entertaining a white audience. is that what you mean.

There is no middle ground with Andrews. He actually said that every white person is racist (although some don’t realise it)
Why is it we (white people of colour) apparently are the source of all racist behaviour towards black people. How come Asians don’t blame us for all their wrongdoings? Do we subconsciously only hold back blacks?
Doreen Lawrence said that at Grenfell the fire brigade would have saved more lives if they were white.
I asked my fireman mate. He said “what, she thinks that we were searching for people in zero visibility & decided to leave anyone who wasn’t white?” She was forced to apologise but that is what was going on in her mind.

I meant that the term would only have been used by black people to a black person, so not racist.

It might be used now by white people who don't know what it means instead of n..., as the dictionary says,

The point is ANY word can be used as an insult.

As I know what it means; with a clear conscience I can cheer Chelsea's black players on tonight describing them as coons, because they are entertaining a majority white crowd.

Don't sound right to me. but I hope they have a good game and win.
