Well there is a moral issue that if you don’t need it and haven’t lost revenue why claim.
The SEISS scheme for the self employed was different from furlough. Self employed had to demonstrate a loss of revenue and I believe the payments were retrospective. Employed people on furlough didn’t have to prove anything. The fact that I employed myself and Mrs Mottie through our company was what got Ellals goat.

Well there is a moral issue that if you don’t need it and haven’t lost revenue why claim. Don’t get me wrong I know several law abiding people who did the same. In fact one of them was told what they were entitled to by the government, it was pure profit
It was a lady from the council tax revenue services who told me that I could avoid council tax on my AirBnBs. sent me all the forms and told me what to do.. very helpful.

IIRC you convinced Bodd to apply while he was having conflicting thoughts about it
Can’t remember that but if he was entitled to it, why not?

And yet in your world disabled people should not be entitled to benefits if they don't "need" them, and they should have to prove that they do, financially.

The motability scheme should be means tested ... Disabled people that can afford to upgrade to a plusher model of car should have their benefit examined. For every pound they pay for the upgrade, a pound should be deducted from their benefit.

Whereas, of course, in your world, what are non-disabled people who don't claim benefits they don't need?

the idiots were those that could have had it but didn’t. I don’t regret taking what I was entitled to in the slightest.

In your world, people on disability benefit aren't even entitled to be treated with respect and not be stigmatised.

They should all have 'D' plates on them so that people are aware that they are disabled and make allowances for them, like they do with 'L' plates and 'P' plates. Mind you, that would spoil the looks of their Q8’s, wouldn’t it?

What an embarrassing cock he is.

A classic Masterclass in Self-Inflicted Damage..

Act I – The Calm Before the Obvious
Sir Keir Starmer, 'bullish and unflappable', peers into the past and decides the future of Labour credibility can safely include Peter Mandelson..lol. A man so steeped in controversy he practically comes with his own risk register. What could possibly go wrong?

Act II – Shock at the Entirely Predictable
Documents surface. Epstein. Emails. Warm familiarity. Labour reacts with genuine surprise, which is impressive considering this is the same man who has resigned more times than most people change phones.

Act III – The $75,000 Vanishing Act
Then comes the money. $75,000. Not a rounding error. Not “lunch money”.
Forgotten.
Apparently entered Mandelson’s life, waved politely, and exited without leaving a single cognitive footprint. An astonishing medical condition, this selective financial amnesia — one wonders why the NHS hasn’t studied it.

Act IV – Damage Control, But Make It Noble
Starmer drops him. Swiftly. Cleanly. With the air of someone annoyed that gravity continues to function.
Mandelson, sensing the mood, resigns from the Labour Party “to avoid embarrassment”, bravely stepping away after the embarrassment has completed several laps of the media cycle.

What’s most troubling is the complacency. Keir Starmer appears to believe he can still place his inner circle into highly influential positions as if political favours, old deals, and personal relationships are a substitute for proper scrutiny. It speaks to an assumption of power rather than an exercise of responsibility.
That this can still happen in plain sight is frankly shameful. It reinforces the perception that our government continues to tolerate deeply flawed, insular systems where the same figures circulate through positions of influence without rigorous, transparent checks. These aren’t oversights; they are structural failures. And until those frameworks are dismantled, the public is left watching the same patterns of quiet patronage and recycled authority play out, again and again.

It's seems - If you pretend not to remember long enough, eventually someone will stop asking or promote you.

You wait . We havent seen the end of Angela Raynor either...

Starmer knew it was a risk. But we are in a pretty desperate position with Trump bullying us relentlessly and with no protection after Brexit. Mandelson is an amazingly shrewd political operator and everyone said he was doing an incredible job. The gamble backfired.
