There are some sick people in this country.

Looks like you’d just stand by and watch. Oh well, you find cowards in all walks of life.
I'm just aware of the first duty of 1st responders.
Apparently you're not.

The first duty of a first responder under the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS UK) is to ensure personal safety. Before attempting any rescue or providing first aid, responders must assess the incident to prevent putting themselves or others at further risk.

Before attempting a rescue, responders must assess the risks. The fundamental principle is that a rescuer must not become a casualty themselves. The crew’s own safety and the safety of their equipment are paramount.

Their primary responsibility is to assess the situation, provide initial assistance to victims, and ensure safety for themselves and others.

and there's more, plenty more.

Only training, repeatedly will overcome the natural childish thought of a child.

For him being mentally ill? No
It may or may not have been factor. We don't know. And we shouldn't speculate about what we don't know.

Yes, if they're a danger to themselves or others.
But they need stimuli otherwise they will become even more ill. And there will be no chance of recovery.

Are you pleased that Valdo Calocane was not locked away?
Was that another case of inadequate funding caring for the mentally ill?

You think funding cuts are partly to blame?
Or would you have mentally ill patients locked away?
I would. Some would be much safer and happier in a big old country house inside a huge fence with a team of people looking after them.

"Care in the Community" was just money-saving wrapped up in a kind-sounding disguise.

I think I would have, actually. Then I’d have dealt with the person who threw him in although I understand he has special needs and/or learning difficulties so it’s his two lazy carers that would have been on the other end of my anger. What would you have done?
Ah, so you'd have been the heroic rescuer and then killed a person who has 'special needs and/or learning difficulties' with your bare hands as you've stated?

Or the other way around?

And then what would you have done with the carers?

Looked for the nearest scaffold pole?

As for what I would have done, I have no idea since neither you or I were there...

What I wouldn't do is start a pointless rant post and try and big myself up ;)

I can honestly say I would have leapt into that croc area to save the child, I have no doubt about that at all. It would be instinct. Anyone I would help but for the child I would not have to think.

That’s about what I would have expected from you.
We of course got the expected pointless bovine excrement from you...

Best you lie down and take a nap old chap...

You ain't helping your blood pressure one little bit

What would you do then? Bugger all?
Ah, one of mottie's merry men arrives to hold his fragile hand...

Yet another idiot claiming he'd be a 'hero', when the honest answer is unless you were there you wouldn't know what you would do at any given point in time
