Despite patching up the crack on the plaster kept coming back. Builder covered pipes with insulation foil to reduce heat (as wall got hot when the heating is on), put some additional pipe clips in to reduce movement, meshed in, put some brown stuff on first (no idea what it's called, then skimmed over the top with plaster / taped and PVA glued the sides. Hopefully this will work this time!
