I’d just cut the piece and see how it looks. Personally I wouldn’t do anything involving filler.

As long as you’ve got decent length screws/nails into several trusses you should be ok just packing it out as needed At the house end no straps, but can pop some screws through the first truss into the wall with some dpc in between

Reckon brick acid will remove the white? I’ve no idea what it is, whether efflorescence or something else. Bricks the wrong way round, despite proving to be a popular talking point, are the least of my worries and a mistake I’ll never make again…
