    Slab mix

Got some Indian sandstone slabs to lay, any benefit in any admix/frost/waterproofer or just the usual sharp sand/cement? Never used admix for this before but just checking (y)

    Leaking shower cubicle - help

Most importantly, the silicone bead should be continuous behind the enclosure, you can see it stops on the inside. So you really need to either remove the side profiles too and seal properly behind, or try and seal it as-is. Then once refitted, seal outside only.

Wall (Main + Extension) not lining up

Any cracks are due to differential movement of the two structures over the years, not the fact that the wall is slightly angled. It’s pretty common, the slight angled kick in the wall probably just accentuates it a bit visually.

    Sandstone against lawn

It’s a good 4” difference so was concerned I’d end up with a noticeable slope

    Sandstone against lawn

I’ve ended up using the cobble-style block pavers on edge set in a strong sharp sand and cement bed and well haunched. Lawn level is way too low to set them at “easy mow” height unfortunately! They’ll be edging Indian sandstone finishing flush with the top of them so should look half decent...

    Patio Edging course

So better to lay a concrete strip footing, then sharp S&C bed mix? Or bed straight into concrete in the first place?

    Patio Edging course

So S&C ok as a footing, or concrete better? I’ll do whatever, just trying to establish what’s best. Pavingexpert Anthony seems to suggest a “fine concrete mix” which I assume to be sharp sand cement

    Patio Edging course

I want to lay an edging course of block pavers as a border to some sandstone slabs. Done plenty of slabbing before but never done any block paving. Any chance of a quick sanity check? My plan is: Tamp down the soil a bit/scrape any loose off Lay the edging course on a sharp sand cement semi dry...

    Sandstone against lawn

Yeah I can and may well do that nearer the time. Focussing on the paving for now

    Sandstone against lawn

I’m laying a patio alongside a lawn, the existing lawn will be ripped up and replaced at some point, but I assume the new turf will end up at the same level as the existing, pretty much. I’m trying to work out how best to edge the Indian sandstone slabs - the lawn will be lower (say 2 or 3...

    Another man cave/garden room

Thanks. Travis Perkins, about 14 quid a sheet. You could probably get them cheaper if you shop around. The sheets are dead easy apart from the external corners which I kinda made up as I went along and wasn’t overly happy with. You don’t have much choice of where the corrugating profile high/low...

    Yep, that’ll do it

    Perfecting a floating floor

Any “bounce” should pretty much be eliminated by ensuring the slab is dead flat to start with. Address any issues with SLC or sand or mortar before the DPM goes down. A screed is always a finishing layer and is a sharp sand cement mix or nowadays pumped liquid latex or whatever. Nowadays it’s...

    Silicone sealant woes

Guessing they’re only taping the frame not any brickwork? I’ve always found you’ve got one chance against brickwork and it’s your first pass with a large cut nozzle. Any tooling needed after that and it goes pear shaped…guess once you’ve done a few hundred you get a steady hand…
