happy new year!
not too bad thanks, we get all the good jobs lol ie expansion vessells on 105he instants and similar did you get much time off for crimbo :D
if the boiler is banging when it is trying to fire it sounds like gas valve or electrode fault, i would highly reccommend you have your gas valve upgraded and this could cure the problem. :D :D

hello, has the boiler had a gas valve upgrade, this could cause a banging noise on ignition, i would be very supprised if it was connected to it being windy outside. :D
if you want to include all the versions you missed the very early 185 sealed system, it didnt take off because being a single skin tank they used to implode under preassure. lol :D :D i am now wondering if you ment 185x, or the x is a kiss ummm dunno :D :D
just turn the water off, open all of the taps in the house to drain a bit of water out and away you go. the diagram is of a powermax he so its very different in princible :D
there is no such boiler as a 185x either, there is a 135, 185, 155, 157, 155x, 157x, and 140. the 155x, 157x and 140 have external heat exchangers and a pump that heats the hot water. :D :D
it does sound like a strange fault and its hard to say what it is without testing the boiler, but if it only locks out on hot water mode it could be the tank sensor is either faulty or not fully inserted in to the tank, this could cause the return temperature to be too high. :D
