    Retirement and Insurance

Thanks for these replies. Some years back my insurance company said I was covered for a job into the future as long as I was insured by them at the time of completion. However when I inquired this weekend on the same point and spoke to 3 separate departments it was clear any claim would only be...

    Retirement and Insurance

Hi I wondered if there are any retired plumbers out there as Im thinking of retiring in the next couple of years. Do you continue with any professional insurance once you retire? I've never had to make a claim yet and it would seem daft to me to continue with public liability insurance when I...

Brand new basin, waste and trap...

I often wind ptfe tape around the rubber seals 2-3 times when the waste is problematic. Wont help the seal to the basin of course

When you took the bleed valve out and attached the hose did you then close each valve in turn? Was there always a good flow?

So you could isolate the shower and see if it makes any difference to the loft hot tap. If not you could time how long say a litre of water takes to flow through the loft hot tap compared to a litre through the hot taps that do work. Perhaps there's a significant difference there.

I doubt it is just a boiler issue or you wouldn't have any hot water at all. It could be a combination of a boiler issue together with a pipework/tap issue in which case you might be best suited to sort that out with the old boiler. I would try what I suggested above if you can and also compare...

I solved a similar problem once simply by changing the hot tap. If the hot tap is supplied by a flexi pipe and an isolator - and you are confident - you could isolate the tap; unscrew the flexi; hold it over a bucket; turn the isolator on; see if any hot water comes out. Of course you may need 3...

adding bigger pipes to 8mm system

"Sorry it gets warm. We know heat is getting there and with the radiator off there isn’t any restricted flow from either pipe that we can see. Starting to wonder if giving a chemical clean might be an idea." I was thinking if the pipe only got luke warm you could eliminate a problem with the...

adding bigger pipes to 8mm system

Possibly. If the radiator is already off and you are confident enough you could try fitting a length of pipe across the 2 valves. See if that heats up or not.

    Boiler fixed price repair

BG will also do a fixed price repair with a 12 month contract. Not necessarily cheap but you would get a repair, a service and the boiler working for a year.
