    Feature Wall

Sorry, yes I would be wiping the paste of the walls whatever. I suppose what I'm saying is which is easier (or leaves less mess) - wiping paint off the wallpaper, or wiping paste of newly painted walls?

    Feature Wall

Hi, I'm redecorating at the moment and will be having a couple of feature walls in some rooms. Basically, the rooms will be re-painted and a single wall papered with some nice paper. My wife asked me the question "will you paint or paper first?" to which my immediate response was to paint...

    Underfloor heating discussion......

Thanks for the replies. It does sound like rad based is the way to go then. It's a holiday cottage which gets closed up over the winter and there is definitely a need for a quick response - we all know what the weather can be like over in Wales. I suppose it makes sense that UFH works...

    Underfloor heating discussion......

My Uncle had some friends who had some UFH installed several years ago (maybe about 10 years ago) and they complained that it cost them lots to run and took up to an hour to heat up properly. I've suggested electric UFH as the best option in our current situation and have agreed to do a bit...

    Underfloor heating discussion......

The topic: Underfloor heating is more expensive to run, less efficient and less responsive (in both heating up and cooling down) than conventional radiator based central heating? OR Underfloor heating has progressed significantly over recent years and is now just as efficient...

    Laminate Floor Advice

How about cutting the bottom step so the laminate actually does go under it rather than just giving the impression it does? Use a piece of the laminate pushed against the step as a guide and with a hard point saw you can cut away the step. You may need to chisel away the awkward parts at the...

gap around skirting for laminate flooring

Hi Ben, If your beading is from the same manufacturer then I would expect at least 2mm of overlap, i.e. the beading would be 12mm wide (or more). The floor really isn't going to move around very much so a couple of mm should be fine in this case. I would recommend (when cutting the...

Laying laminate around bottom of stairs

Usually, when you have an area that does not lend itself to having the standard edging trim you need to cut away the offending section and slide the laminate underneath. A good example of this is a door frame where you obviously can't go around the whole frame with the edging as the door...

What to do with carpet when painting skirting?

Cheers for the replies everyone. I actually managed to explain to them that you don't need to do the woodwork everytime you do the walls. I just cleared everything away hoovered (or henried) thoroughly and cleaned the skirting up with some sugar soap. It looks as good as new!

    Banging noises

It didn't say that the boiler shut down in the first post! No offence taken as that is obviously not what is happening here. A faulty pump is a much better place to start with this one!

    Poor Idling Golf MK 3

Stepper/Idle Motor? Not sure about the setup on a golf, but I know that various cars have stepper motor that controls idling. These can sometimes need a good clean, or possibly replacing. A faulty stepper can cause the car to idle low and cut out, or very high or even hunt during idling...
