Hi All
So I had a bit of a play around yesterday and fitted the non-return valve on the hot side immediately after the pump.
Unfortunately, that made no difference to the shower performance.
I then thought I'd try and partially close the isolating valve on the cold side to see if this would...
Thank you @Madrab.
I see what you mean about not having a dedicated feed for the pump, although all upstairs hot water taps, showers etc are fed by the pump and only two downstairs taps are fed outside of that loop and are never on at the same time as the shower so I'm not sure why that could...
You might be on to something here. You are correct the pump is in the attic, above the HW cylinder which is on the floor below and about the same height as the bottom of the cold water tank. All the pipework looks to be 22mm to me.
I moved into the house a year ago and it has never worked...
So something like this running out of the pump?

From the pump manual I note it states: " NON-RETURN VALVES MUST NOT be fitted in the discharge pipework between...
Sorry I should have come back to you on this. I believe the showers have the valves built in: https://www.showerdoc.com/ultra-3-4-dual-control-valve-short-elbows-and-flanges-chrome-sa30918s
Can these fail/are they worth replacing before the more expensive cartridge?
No other suggestions then? Looks like I will need to try a replacement shower valve. The only other part that looks like it would go wrong is one of the springs. Which seemed fine when I took them apart.
Interesting that you think it is not enough flow from the hot side rather than too much from the cold?
When I run both hot a cold taps together in a sink for example there is a good flow from both when the pump is on which made me discount the idea.
Hi Guys
I have been struggling with an issue with the two showers in my new house.
Essentially they never get hot enough (lukewarm at best) unless you turn a nearby cold tap on full after which it gets nice and hot so it feels like the cold water is overpowering the hot within the thermostatic...
Hi All
I pulled out a Victorian fireplace yesterday as I am restoring it (stripping paint on the surround and replacing the insert). The intention is for the fireplace to be for aesthetic reasons only - not functional.
When the fireplace came out so did a whole lot of masonry. Much to the...
Technically this would require planning permission as it would result in a 'material' change in the appearance of the building. Depending on the location of the building, you might be willing to accept the risk of being 'found out'. Providing the building is not particularly sensitive in terms...
Thanks guys.
If there is no way to tell whether it is still active/connected to the gas supply then looks like the only alternative is to get someone to come and cap it off.
Hi All
I'm new to the forum having bought my first house a couple of months ago and am looking to get stuck into some DIY in the new year.
My first project is to redecorate a bedroom. There is what looks to be an old gas fitting poking out of the floor. It is next to a now blocked up fireplace...
