Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

OK, finally found the issue. Although it was scheduled to come on, the hot water was not set to ‘on’. There was a setting hidden within the app to switch it on. You’d think it would tell you there is another setting, not just the timer.

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

Although the installation went well, I have noticed an issue with the Nest. Central heating works fine and the boost for hot water works fine too, but the hot water is not being switched on when scheduled. If I set it to come on from 4-5pm it shows a message that next hot water time is at 4pm...

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

All installed :) Took me about 2 hours to do. First I tested the Heat Link connected in the original programmer's position and the Thermostat powered by USB cable. Once confirmed hot water and central heating worked fine, I then traced the wires up to the airing cupboard, cut them here and...

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

Not sure how I missed that, it's been a long day! Yes, I will do. As I can't extend the thermostat wires down to the kitchen (where the boiler and current programmer are), at least not without lifting floorboards etc, my plan is to move the Heat Link to the upstairs airing cupboard so I can...

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

One final question. The current programmer, has 2 earth wires attached to it (see attachment). The new Heat Link doesn't have a place for earths, can I just blank these off, or do they need to be earthed somewhere?

Got ya. Think that is everything. Really appreciate the time and help you have given me. :)

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

Checked, and that is all correct. I understand moving the yellow cable from MoMo (terminal 3) and putting it in terminal 4, but where you say 'To decommission the old thermostat, remove the cable completely', which cable do you mean? Do you mane the red cable in terminal 4? Just remove it and...

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

Ok, so my original wiring (top post) for the Heat Link is fine, I just need to also put the CH OFF (from current programmer), into terminal 1 (heating satisfied) on the Heat Link, which will tell the MoMo Valve to close when the Heating Temp is reached/satisfied. So think I know how to wire the...

I have taken a better image (there is also a blue wire in the top left which is hard to see). Hopefully the rest is a lot clearer. So yes it uses terminals 1-3 with 4 unused, by the looks of it.

Also, attached is the central heating motorised valved, which doesn't have a sprung manual arm on the side like the one for the hot water does. So looks like it is a MoMo as you thought.

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

Ok, so in that case, (2) CH Off will definitely need to go into terminal 1 of the Heat Link in order to switch the heating off? Attached is the thermostat and wiring diagram for it. As far as I can see, it only has two wires in it, a blue one in the top left and a red one in the bottom right...

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

I have 5 wires coming from the central heating valve cable (2): Yellow, green/yellow (earth), orange (which I thought was red), blue and white (maybe grey, but looks more white). Yellow goes to terminal 3, green/yellow goes to the bottom terminal of vertically aligned terminals, orange goes to...

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

Am guessing the red cable which goes down to the kitchen where the boiler is switches the boiler on when either of the two 2 port valves are switched on, like you said above. Think this also means it is going to be tricky to wire up the new nest thermostat using the old thermostat's wires. I...

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

I have attached 2 images of the wiring centre below, but it has a lot more terminals than the standard 10. For the 2nd image I have drawn on where the wires terminate. Cable 1 is hot water valve, 2 is central heating valve and 3 goes down to the kitchen where the boiler and programmer are. All...

Advice on Wiring for Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat

Thank you for the comprehensive reply. The two 2 port valves I have are a Honeywell (hot water) and Sachwell (central heating). I think I will put the wire (CH OFF) in to terminal 1 of the heat link if that is the equivalent terminal. For the Thermostat, I'd like to connect it to T1 and T2 and...
