    Sink overflow too long..

Sounds simple enough, I agree. But there’s only so much of the rigid sleeve either end that I can cut off, and I need that sleeve to secure it to the waste spigot and sink overflow outlet. It’s a very small sink that was fitted to maximise worktop area ( and to save money on buying a better...

    Sink overflow too long..

Got a slight problem that doesn’t feel as if it should be a problem…but it is. The overflow from my kitchen sink is too long for the distance between the waste spigot and the overflow connection to the sink. I’ve cut away some of the spigot on the overflow to shorten it but as you can see, it’s...

Pan connector not sealing on toilet

You’re not using a lubricant on the spigot, are you? Pretty sure those connectors are meant to go on “dry”. I once put washing-up liquid on a WC spigot before fitting the connector, and there was no way I could get it to seal.

    Replacing a sectional garage roof

Thanks to you also for that. Hopefully asbestos disposal is just as simple for a DIYer in our locality. I'll check.

    Replacing a sectional garage roof

I'd have to check the asbestos disposal arrangements in this area before going ahead, but thanks.

    Replacing a sectional garage roof

We've got a few other things to pay for in the meantime and as I said above, the old asbestos roof is still watertight, so no rush. The garage is positively rammed with stuff, and although I haven't yet had an onsite survey by the firm that quoted 2.5k, I'm sure most of it would have to come out...

    Replacing a sectional garage roof

Many thanks. I was quoted 2.5k by a garage roof specialist last year for stripping and disposing of the asbestos, then re-covering with metal and a condensation barrier. I guess OSB and felt is an option, but maybe I should just save up.

    Replacing a sectional garage roof

Evening all I've had a couple of quotes for replacement of the pitched asbestos roof of my sectional garage. Not unreasonable quotes, but I'm thinking about a DIY option. The current roof doesn't leak at all, so its not a repair, but an upgrade to a non-asbestos roof that I'm thinking of. I...

    Sound insulating a party wall.

    Superb, thank you.

    Sound insulating a party wall.

Not sure whether this is the correct section of the forum, but here goes. Suggestions for sound-insulating a party wall in a semi-detached bungalow, please. We love living here but the adjoining walls seem to be paper thin and I think a solution is required. At present there's an elderly lady...

Ok to spray paint on cables?

When we moved into this bungalow the cables were attached to the garage roof supports with short pieces of twisted wire. I called an electrician in to sort out a number of jobs, and he secured the cables to the roof supports with cable ties. I assume that he knew what he was doing, so I'm happy...

Ok to spray paint on cables?

Again thanks, but I’ve decided to proceed with the job. It’s an itch I’ve wanted to scratch ever since we moved here 4 years ago and I’ve just ( carefully, with all the necessary protection) wire brushed the surface rust from 6 of the roof supports and painted them with rust converter. Another 6...

Ok to spray paint on cables?

I won’t be using spray, but instead applying a multi surface paint with a brush. But thanks anyhow for the heads-up.

Ok to spray paint on cables?

Yes, I get that. The job will be onerous because of the need to either move or put dust sheets over a fair amount of stuff, and it could be wasted time and effort if we do get the roof replaced in the next couple of years. Food for thought which I’ll take on board.

Ok to spray paint on cables?

Thanks once more, but I remain convinced that demounting of the cables before treating and painting the metal roof supports is the best way forward in the circumstances.
