Can anyone help me calculate the approximate u-value of a converted loft (under a victorian tiled pitched roof) - firstly with no insulation, and secondly with 100mm of block insulation between the joists/rafters? (I guess it may depend to some extent on exactly which insulation material is...
I'm thinking about having a room-wide dormer window added to my pitched roof, which will involve having a flat roof of about 10 feet square. It will be three stories up and not particularly accessible, so I want to make it last as long as possible. Is rubber the answer (as the actress said to...
Just in case anyone else ever contemplates this, I've been told by a structural engineer that the ceiling beams form a triangle with the joists and stop the joists applying outward pressure on the exterior wall (and potentially the wall bulging out). So if I want to remove the ceiling, I would...
I would like to reinforce a couple of 6 x 2 floor joists that have been fairly deeply notched (I assume for some now redundant pipe runs). I am considering fixing a steel plate to either side of the joist with bolts - can anyone point me in the direction of a steel plate supplier, as I haven't...
Ahh...they look pretty much the same to me (they are both Grohe "embedded in the wall" mixers) but I guess you are saying that the flow rate through the one with the bath diverter is going to be higher, at a given pressure? Maybe I should put a bath one in the shower cubicle as well..
Thanks for the replies. I am running them separately and they are both the same make of mixer, newly installed (although one is a bath mixer and the other is in a shower cubicle). Perhaps I need to open the mixer from the front if possible, and check that nothing is blocking it?
Hi, I have two showers which branch off the same 22mm hot and cold feeds, but the water pressure is quite different in the two showers. They are at the same height below the cold water tank, both have 22mm pipes all the way to the mixer, and are not far apart. The only difference I am aware of...
Hello, I would like to remove a ceiling and its supporting beams to open up a roof void above a room, but I don't know whether the beams have any structural role. The void is above the 1st floor room of a two-storey rear extension (in a victorian terraced house). The extension is shared with...
