Thanks anyway. have just made a goose neck and that has solved the problem.

Hi we are having difficulty joining the handrail to the top newel post because we have changed a plain one for an ornate one. the fixing needs to be on the ornate part of the newel (an oversight on our part) can anyone offer advice on how to do this please.
