    Insulating outside walls.

White powder... I removed the horizontal flue from the boiler over xmas (boiler change) and to my surprise (after being told we had 9" solid brick walls) found a small cavity between external brick and clinker block. In the cavity was white powder. It didn't spill out, so don't know if its...

    Insulating outside walls.

Haven't been under the floor yet, so don't know, but suspect it isn't insulated. Upstairs... we think there was one room (at the front) which was original to the 1950s build - it is like a walk-in freezer in there. The rest is a recent conversion (velux windows etc) and is pretty snug. Again...

    Insulating outside walls.

We bought a 1950s chalet bungalow last summer - very cold when heating goes off we have found. Looks like its construction is brick, small cavity, then a thin 'clinker block (?)'. The cavity has some weird white powder in it on the section I inspected. Also suspended floor with air-vents. I...

    Boiler not heating water enough.

Depending upon your plumbing, your bath's hot water tap may have a 22mm supply running to it (if the plumbing is 'old'), and if your boiler doesn't have a flow reducer fitted, it may be passing too many litres-per-minute through the tap for the boiler to heat properly. Your instructions should...

HW works reliably, CH does not (Y-Plan, Unvented System)

Not sure what the green light/red light thing is... If HW works consistently then you're likely looking at a fault with (in order of probability)... Actuator (should get 230v) on orange wire once it motors across; Roomstat (put link between live & switched live to link out); Timeclock...

    Baxi Combi Instant 80HE fault

Of the 1000s of these boilers I've worked on I've never seen milky condensate (indeed Baxi Tech said they'd never heard of it and some dust or plaster must have blown into the flue)?!! However, you're right about the PCB. 30 & 40 lights flashing together indicates this apparently - replaced...

My Vaillant Ecotec Plus boiler wont switch on!!!

If you feel confident then put your multimeter on 600vac and check for around 230v across live & earth, 230v across live & neutral, 0v across live & earth. If this checks out, and if you've replaced the onboad fuses (indeed if the 230v gets past the onboard fuses and past the on/off switch)...

My Vaillant Ecotec Plus boiler wont switch on!!!

On-board fuses often check out ok whilst therer is no power going through them but fail once power is applied - worth replacing anyway as if you have 230v going into the boiler then this is the 1st thing I'd check. Sound like your expansion vessel has deflated too and needs reinflating to around...

    Baxi Combi Instant 80HE fault

Both 30 & 40 lights flashing. Noticed condensate trap had an inch of milky liquid in it. Reset boiler for a good 30 seconds at which point it came back to life (a 5 or 10 second reset didn't do it). Boiler then just ran and ran, couldn't make it fail. However... 24 hours later same...
