    Trio Sander

Does anyone know of an outlet in Greater Manchester where I can hire a Trio floor sander? They seem to be widely available in London, but ringing around the Hire shops in the North West has brought several variations on 'what's one of them?' It's to strip a parquet floor and I gather that...

    Gravel Driveway

thanks fellas. What about a couple of ton of grit sand mixed with it? Would that help? It's not pea gravel, no. It's a mix of 10mm and 20mm. River gravel (or similar, can't remember the name)

    Gravel Driveway

I now have a gravel driveway, not huge, but enough for the 2 bangers. The gravel is about, maybe 4 inches deep, at it's deepest. But the cars sink lower than an England fans face after the Portugal match. I hired a wacka plate when prepping the area after digging out the top soil. Then I...

    Between wall insulation

In my case, I just ended up waiting for the cretins to move out. We now have new neighbours who I've chatted with, and expressed my dislike of boom boom music, although obviously I related it to the previous tenents. The newbies seem to be of a like mind, and have (just tthe one) a new born, so...

Laying ceramic tile and uneven floor

    1. Can I just use more thin-set in the few areas that are not level? A. What for? The adhesive can take care of it. 2. What would you recommend for a high quality self leveling product? A. Not sure what you mean.... 3. Which is a better product to use, premixed adhesive or mix it your...

    Toaster, 2 or 4 slices

....Now I wouldn't mind if was JUST the toilet seat thing, (not that I understand what that's all about mind) but it's not, it's a whole host of other things with women too...... When they clean, they have this urge to move things into new locations. The suite, the TV, the bed, the wardrobe...

    PLASTER BOARDS

Quite right there Adam. I made an assumption: Dot it on the wall over the area that the board will cover. Make sure you scrim those joints too before skimming.

    Noisy Neighbours

I used the insulation 'boards' from Wickes. Simple enough to fit really, the boards can be temporarily fixed across the party wall with tile adhesive (just to hold them in place) then plasterboard straight over the top. The boards are held in place with long plastic 'plugs'. Drill through the...

    Building regs for Replacement Window

Just adding to that. If you get a firm to replace your windows, they have to be either FENSA registered, or get building regs approval from your local authority. You can replace them yourself but the local authority have to give approval and will want to know that your replacement window/s...

    PLASTER BOARDS

Get a bag of 'bonding' to stick to board to brick. Mix it fairly stiff, but not too stiff. It should stick to the brick when flicked onto it, but should have enough 'give' to press your boards home. The plasterboard will have written on it which side to face which way.

Tiling - Where to begin and other useful tips

One teeny weeny thing I would add: And of course, it's all a matter of personal taste, granted. There is the danger that ' floor to ceiling' all white tiles might just make it look a bit 'Butchers shoppy' Just a thought.........

    Wallpaper bathroom

I would think that so long as you have good extraction in the bathroom, and there are no damp problems, and it's heated when cold, then papering should be fine, and you shouldn't get any mould. Use a mould resitant paste just for extra peace of mind. I half papered mine, complies with all of...

    Covering up poor ceiling....

Just so I 'Get it' Plastering is out (for the moment) You don't want to paper You might paint You want it to look good You want suggestions, right?

    Boarding before tiling?

At best: If the ply is good and firm, I can't really see a problem in tiling onto it. How uneven is uneven? If you just mean that it's not level, well check your average floor, If it's not too bad, you should be able to compensate where needed with the adhesive On the subject of which, don't...
